As part of the project, a successful 4-step process was developed for delaminating solar modules and recovering intact solar glass panes for reuse or recycling.

This process does not involve downcycling the glass, as is the case with most PV recycling processes. The process developed here is based on two mechanical and two chemical steps.

It requires few hazardous and environmentally relevant chemicals and little energy, as it can be carried out exclusively at room temperature. The products are intact flat glass panes and silicon cells with conductor tracks encapsulated in an EVA laminate.
